How I Work

I am a holistic relational psychotherapist.

I draw from Humanistic, Gestalt Psychotherapy, Somatic Experiencing, Liberation Psychology, and strengths-based approaches. My approach is trauma informed; I work at a pace that feels safe for you.

What is holistic?

I see all elements of your self and experience as being relevant to the therapy. I invite you to become more aware of your thoughts, emotions, body sensations, and physical environment. I also make space for the ways culture and society have influenced you, including the impacts of oppression and identity, in our work together. I do not believe it is possible to separate “mental health” or suffering from all the structures and relationships surrounding a person.

What is relational?

I see the relationship between myself and my client as the primary element which makes therapeutic work possible. As a therapist, I hold your disowned parts for you until you are ready to integrate or welcome them home. I am here to help mediate between the parts of you which are in conflict and support you to develop your own inner mediator.

What is psychotherapy?

To me, psychotherapy is a process in which we explore the way you function in the world, both in the areas that are working well for you and those that are not. In those areas where you need to support, we can look at how you may have adapted to your early life experiences, and check to see if those adaptive behaviors are still serving you. We can explore how your thoughts and behaviors show up in the therapy room or use exercises to help you experience them in the present.
